March 28th - a dash of color

I noticed I was wearing a lot of dark colors this week and even though it was cold, gloomy and rain was in the forecast I was going to try for Spring.

Here I am with a bright teal (aqua?) dress from Loft, my standard black blazer from Forever 21, a JCrew necklace that as a gift and my black flats from DSW. I love wearin color and this outfit definitely lifted my spirits. This is also a great Friday dress because the dress has a fun cutout in the back meaning I can ditch the jacket, change the shoes and then go out to a happy hour ready for Friday! It's always fun to have those pieces that can go from work to play :)

March 26th - Two for One

Today was my second day of class for professional development, it was ok although I didn't really enjoy one of the presenter's teaching styles and the group can't answer questions/problems quickly. We always have to go through ten different "what if" scenarios. The classroom was freezing so I ended up wearing two different outfits.

Outfit one:

The grey dress - that has pockets! And the blue cardigan are both from Target. This wasn't keeping me warm so during the break I changed into:

Outfit 2:
To get warmer I changed my sweater to a warmer one I keep it on the back of my chair - it was purchased at Kohls when I was visiting Minnesota and realized I needed warmer clothes. I also added my boots to keep part of my legs warm, I had knee socks under them!

Finally I was warm for the rest of the work day!

March 25th - winter wonderland

It looks like January right now outside my window. Come on. March! Where's the nice weather?!? We got some snow today in DC and while walking home it was the cold, wet, snowy/slush mixture and wasn't all that wonderful.
Today at work I was in a class for professional development - here's what I wore.

Even though the outfit looks all black like yesterday (I'm apparently mourning the lack of sun) I'm actually wearing a dark green dress with black piping detail I picked up at Target, black blazer from Forever 21, black scarf and black boots both from Kohls. I stayed warm despite the cold.

March 27th - is it Friday yet?

EToday was the last day of class - woo hoo! Today was also a day that my sister and I got to discuss a lot of weddings decorations and finalize a lot of details. Now just to execute all the fabulous plans! I also stopped by a Grad School reception on a whim to look at options and speak to different school. While there I met some nice people and we ended up having a great time.

Here I am wearing a grey leopard print dress with black inserts that I got from LOFT, black cardigan from Target and black tights.

A note about tights: while it's cheaper to buy the $5 tights from Target, the better quality $10 are way darker and last longer - I highly recommend the splurge :)

March 24th - 5 day week

Back to a five day work week for me this Monday and unfortunately also back to the cold. After enjoying almost 70 on Saturday the lower 40s were quite the bummer.

Went with some black on black today. The long sleeve dress is from Lands End (same dress as the blue one that has been featured) I'm actually wearing herringbone tights but you can't see them in this light. Shoes from DSW and the black belt is from Target. Hopefully tomorrow is warmer although I doubt it - they are predicting snow!

March 22nd - Saturday shopping

Saturday was absolutely gorgeous in DC and I celebrated by sleeping in, reading in bed, a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and fruit and then going for a run. The hardest part of the fun was running up "The Hill." If anyone doesnt believe the Capitol is on a hill then they should try running up it sometime! After my run I went to the mall to look for Maid of Honor dresses and for shoes. I found nothing :( womp womp. Here was my Saturday running errands outfit:

Wearing my Levi skinny jeans, mint green shirt from Old Navy, and a blazer I picked up at Goodwill to give a cute but casual vibe for the weekend. Added the green bag, which is my official Spring purse - so excited for pops of bright colors!

March 21 - TGIF

After the doge all championship and celebrating I was just excited that Friday had arrived. It was also a casual Friday (and warm!) for me and I was definitely excited!

The black, polka dot top was found on clearance at Old navy, the raspberry crop chinos were ordered from Lands End. My pointed black kitten heels I've had for awhile and I'm assuming I got then at DSW since I get 99% of my work shoes from there.

March 19th - Rainy Day

I realized I forgot to post last night, so instead you will get two posts today!

Yesterday was cold and rainy, but I so desperately want some Spring that I tried to incorporate it in my outfit. Still needed tights though, it's not that warm!

This dress is from Gap and has pockets! I was initially hesitant to buy it because I wasn't sure about the whole large-scale polka dots, but since purchasing it I tend to get compliments every time I wear it. I can wear it on more casual days in the office or if I want to dress up for brunch on the weekends. (The sleeves can be rolled up it down depending on how cold you get) I paired it with navy tights and grey booties. Ideally I would love a grey thick belt, but I only have a black one so I made do.

March 17th - Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Today the luck of the Irish brought a dumping of snow on DC. But since I didn't want to post another picture of what I lounge around in the house in (Boring!) I decided to put on the outfit I had planned to wear to work today.

Wearing a green short-sleeve shirt dress that was originally my sister's, a black belt and cardigan with some tights I thought was a good way to celebrate this fun holiday at work!  Maybe next year I'll have to remember this one :)

March 16th - Happy birthday to my sister!

It's my sister's birthday today. It's also snowing in DC and was a lazy Sunday for me. My roommate and I have a strict "no real pants rule" for the apartment, meaning you must wear sweatpants, yoga pants, shorts, leggings, etc while in the apartment. It also means that no cute outfit was really put together for the lazy Sunday. Here's the photo for today:

I never really jumped on any type of Zubaz bandwagon when they were at their peak, but I took this pair from my boyfriend and have to admit they are super comfortable - perfect for my lazy, snowy Sunday!

March 15th - Another touristy day

Another day spent walking around the National Mall and visiting a Smithsonian. Afterwards we had dinner with a friend and then went out for drinks.

Here my blazer is from Goodwill, a basic long sleeved grey tshirt from Gap outlet and Levi skinny jeans. The scarf is from Old Navy and lent the green for the early celebrators of st. Patrick's day as well as some spring colors since it was so nice out.

March 14th - PI Day

As much as I wanted to eat pie today I unfortunately didn't get the chance. I instead took the day off and spent it with the boyfriend who is visiting. We went to Monticello (I haven't been since fourth grade) and took the behind-the-scenes tour and it was awesome!

It was mid-50s and sunny today. I wore a striped long sleeved shirt from the Gap outlet, Levi skinny jeans, Sperry shoes, scarf from the flea market at Eastern market and the jacket has been photographed before on the blog - it was clearance at jcpennys.

Overall I was incredibly comfortable throughout the entire day of touring, here's a shot of Monticello:

March 13th - what a difference a day makes

It may have reached almost 70 on Wednesday but Thursday brought temps in the 20s and 30s which just seemed cruel after getting a hint of nice weather and trying to put my tights away for the season I had to drag out my fleece lined leggings to wear under my dress.

My blue dress is from Lands End and I loved it so much I have the same one in black. The dress has long sleeves and pockets which makes it ideal for Fall, Winter and chilly spring days. My fleece lined leggings were purchased from Amazon. The boots were originally my mom's but she passed them down to me. And my scarf was purchased during a European trip with my mom while I was in the Czech Republic.

Here's hoping that Spring comes soon!

March 12th - discussion

Today was supposed to be in the 70s so I celebrated by wearing florals. It was a cute dress but the walk home from happy hour in the wind and cool temperature were not very fun.

The dress is from Ann Taylor (it was a contender for my cousin's wedding but I choose the blue and kept this one for work) the cardigan is from a Gap outlet store and the shoes are DSW. My feet are having a bit of difficulty now that I'm not wearing tights so I'm using a lot of duct tape to help my feet with the transition. I hope shoes feel comfortable again soon!

March 11th - Work dinner party

Today there is a dinner after work that my office is working so I've been busy today with lots of emails, phone calls, denying requests for extra guests and updating list after list trying to nail down our most "accurate" numbers.  I'm also getting to deal with the frustration of responding to email questions that if the person read my first email they would realize the answer to the question they are asking me is right in my first email. I don't write the emails for my own enjoyment, I promise they contain relevant information! Oh well, enough with that, here's the outfit that's getting a good 14 hours of wear today:

The dress is from Ann Taylor and was originally purchased for my cousin's wedding last May. The cardigan is from target and the belt came with a dress I bought from Marshall's and the black flats (flats are a must for marble floors and long days) are from DSW.

I actually haven't decided yet if I'm planning on keeping the cardigan for the actual dinner or if I will switch to a black blazer. I like the cardigan but the blazer offers pockets for my phones and pens and paper so the blazer may win out.

March 10th - not as warm as I thought it would be

Today was supposed to be in the 60s and I was really excited to not wear tights for the first time since November. It might have been a bit premature since it never really hit the 60s today. However the day went faster because I went out for lunch so by the time I got back I helped wrapping prints with ribbon for a work dinner this Tuesday. I managed to snap this really yellow shot of my outfit when I got home from work.

The purple dress is from Lands End, belt from Target (my only thick black belt) and the necklace was a gift from my friend and he got it from Limited.

Also for fun, here's a shot of my ribbon tying skills:

March 9th - lazy weekend

My apologies for not posting yesterday. I didn't really make it out of the apartment and completely forgot to post. But also a picture of sweatpants and a tshirt aren't really that inspiring. Today was lounging around and then driving from PA to DC so I went with a more casual ensemble.

Wearing a DC United soccer shirt, even though they lost their home opener :( a UMM track jacket that's from my undergrad days and some Levi jeans. Not pictured are my sperrys that I was wearing for most of the day.

I'll try not to slip up again!

March 7th - briefings

Today was the day of briefings. I had two back to back briefings and definitely choose the wrong shoes to be running around in. These used to be my most comfortable heels but sadly they have become to old to be comfortable anymore.

Here's my outfit today: shirt is from Kohls, the skirt I got from my grandmother when she was getting rid of some of her old suits, the heels are from target that originally my mom purchased but thought they were too "wicked witch of the west" so I got them for free!

March 5th

Today was a fairly busy day with some tours, meetings and then answering some emails. I really had no idea what to wear this morning - there's a bit of pressure knowing that I can't wear whatever I choose again for the rest of the month.

Here I am wearing a black 3/4 sleeve shirt from kohls and a black cardigan from Target. The skirt, from a boutique store at Mall of America, actually has small red polka dots and pockets but both are hard to see in this lighting. The necklace was the major focal point if the outfit and was purchased at Eastern Market. It's one of my favorite necklaces, but causes metal detectors to go off even if I get within 2 feet of the thing!

March 4th - Back to Reality

After a snow day, reality came back on Tuesday with saying goodbye to my sister as she went back home as well as going back to work. Now I'm stuck with taking selfies at work because I'm that person who keeps all their nice work shoes in a box under her desk, and shoes tend to complete the look.

Starting from the top: my Pride & Prejudice scarf (because when you work at the largest library in the world you can throw in some fun literary accessories), green dress from Lands End - it has pockets! And the black boots are from Kohls at least 5 years ago.

March 3rd - Snow Day!

The It was a snow day here in the nation's Capitol and while the snow was absolutely beautiful it did prevent my sister and I from looking at bridesmaid dresses. This was a big frustrating for two girls from Minnesota who can function quite well with 3-4 inches of snow. Nonetheless we made the most of it as there were some delicious cupcake places that were still open despite the snow.

Being originally from Minnesota, nothing quite says "Snow Day" like a warm flannel shirt.

The flannel shirt is from a Goodwill store, the cardigan I picked up at a Gap outlet, Old Navy pants and my trusty Sorel boots got me warmly through the snow!

March 2nd - The Oscars

While my outfit was certainly more laid back then the beautiful gowns I saw at the Oscars this evening, I can certainly believe I was more comfortable!  My sister and I went out for breakfast at a cute local hole-in-the-wall place and then visited the Gallery of Art and did some shopping. I was dressed to spend the day out and about.

Here I am sporting a grey thermal from the men's section of American Eagle, Levi Jeans, a scarf from Old Navy and a green military jacket I got on clearance years ago at JCPennys. While I liked the outfit, it certainly wasn't the most water resistant, which would have come in handy when I was walking 4 blocks in the rain.

March 1st - Casual Saturday

My sister is visiting today and while it's warmer in DC then it is in Michigan, I still broke out the flannel for a trip to Eastern Market.

I'm wearing Levi jeans, a men's canvas shirt from Lands End, a zip up from Ragstock and a scarf from Target. It definitely was a comfortable and casual outfit that kept me warm today.

March Mad-Dress

For anyone who knows me, it's no secret that I have a lot of clothes.  I not only have my tiny closet in my DC apartment filled to bursting but with the help of my parents I have six drawers under my bed filled with clothes as well as a 5 drawer up-right dresser that's stuffed as well.  I enjoy finding clothes on sale, clearance as well as in thrift stores and Goodwill.  I loved getting dressed up (perk of having a boss that requires a lot of business dress) and on weekends can be found in at least 2 different outfits per day - well if my at home "outfit" of yoga pants and sweatshirts can count as an outfit :)

I thought because of my plethora of clothes that it might be a fun experiment if I try to go through all of March without repeating an outfit.  That way I would know what I actually wear, possibly discover new and fun combinations and then be able to donate or let my friends pick over the stuff that I can do without.

The Rules:

  1. I must document at least one new/original outfit every day.  Now these will be a combination of awesome mirror selfies or conning friends into taking my picture for me, but at one point in the day there will be a post with a new outfit.
  2. No repeating dresses (these count as one outfit)  I know that you can say that you are wearing a different jacket or cardigan with a dress but I'm not sure that counts as a real outfit.
  3. Yes to repeating jeans/basic dress pants.  Surprisingly I only have 2 pairs of jeans that I really love and continue to wear on a daily basis, and jeans are basics so these can be layered and be a completely different outfit.  The same goes for my black and grey dress pants - these are wardrobe staples that can be used to form a number of different outfits.
  4. Yes to repeating accessories - this is just a clothing challenge, accessories such as jewelry, scarves, belts and shoes can be repeated as often as I choose.
Wish me luck and stay tuned for March Mad-Dress challenge!!!
